PHILADELPHIA, PA—A man who plays the guitar for passersby at the corner of 11th and Sansom streets has become the latest of many to implement a surge pricing model, sources close to the man say. In comments released exclusively to The Humerus Daily, our sources explained that, as opposed to a traditional “pay as you please” model, the freelance strummer will now be charging pedestrians according to a dynamic pricing model, with prices ranging from a quarter to upwards of ten dollars. The fees are calculated using a proprietary algorithm that takes into account a variety of factors, including time of day, volume of foot traffic, and whether any nearby Mexican restaurants are running a “Taco Tuesday” promotion.

The part-time string-plucker joins a growing list of your least favorite vendors in trialing the pricing model popularized by theme parks, airlines, taxi and rideshare services, and hotels.

“I’m an entrepreneur,” the man, whose identity could not be confirmed, explained. “Ever since the pandemic, it’s been getting easier and easier to scam a buck out of people. You know a taco at Taco Bell used to cost a dollar? And it’s still the same price all day? Crazy, if you ask me. They need to get their money up. And they need to stop shutting my shows down outside their establishment!”

Consumers have yet to feel the full weight of the pricing change. As for the guitarist, he was last seen attempting an uninspired rendition of some song your parents liked when they were in high school for a crowd of five onlookers, most of which were pigeons.
